The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has added a cryptocurrency address allegedly associated with the Lazarus hacker group to its sanctions list.
The address has been flagged in connection with an attack on the Ronin sidechain. At the time of writing, the wallet contained 147,753 ETH.
Chainalysis analysts also noted that the address was involved in the Ronin attack – it received 173,600 ETH and 25.5 million USDC stolen from the stolen funds.
The FBI report states that Lazarus was responsible for the theft of $620 million in cryptocurrency. In attacking the Ronin, the attacker withdrew approximately $625 million in assets.
Recall that Lazarus was associated with the North Korean authorities. Hackers are also involved in other major attacks in the crypto industry.
