DeFi platform WonderFi Technologies, backed by TV personality Kevin O’Leary, has agreed to acquire Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Coinberry. This is stated in the press release.
The deal is worth approximately $30.3 million and the parties plan to close it in the second quarter of 2022.
WonderFi’s goal is to strengthen its presence in Canada. Previously, the project acquired local trading platform Bitbuy – now the team is expanding this brand in Australia and plans to expand into the US by the end of the year.
WonderFi strategic investor Kevin O’Leary described the team’s acquisition as “extremely significant”. According to him, this speaks of the foresight of the platform’s plans.
Recall that in August 2021 Coinberry became one of the regulated crypto exchanges, which was banned by the Ontario Securities Commission from working with the USDT stablecoin from Tether.
