A court in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China has ruled on a copyright infringement claim against BigVerse, the company behind NFTCN platform NFTCN. SCMP writes about this.
Plaintiff Qice claimed that one of the platform users stole the work of artist Ma Qianli. An unknown person printed the NFT and sold it for 899 yuan ($137 at the exchange rate at the time of writing).
The NFTCN platform was found guilty of “facilitating the infringement of intellectual property rights”. According to the court, the company did not check whether the user was indeed the author of the work.
BigVerse should pay Qice 4,000 yuan ($610) as compensation and stop distribution of NFTs. According to the publication, we are talking about burning a coin.
Recall that at the end of 2021, Chinese authorities warned that NFTs and the metaverse could be bubbles, Ponzi schemes or other forms of financial fraud.
