The Legislative Assembly of the Russian Federation will develop recommendations to increase liability for crimes using digital currencies. This was stated by Konstantin Tolkachev, chairman of the Council on National Security and Anti-Corruption Legislative Support, writes TASS.
According to him, “underground currency transactions” and the use of cryptocurrencies to finance illegal acts can cause serious economic damage to the Russian Federation.
Tolkachev believes that the fight against crime related to digital currencies is not adequately specified in Russian legislation.
“The legalization of cryptocurrencies creates conditions for large-scale growth of citizens’ investments in a highly speculative instrument that has no collateral and is capable of exploding at any moment,” he added.
Vasily Piskarev, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, announced the work to regulate the status of platforms used for the anonymous circulation of cryptocurrencies:
“Digital money is valuable because it is used as a means of payment, but today, there is no law in the law to ensure that these virtual values are detained when necessary. This is a loophole in the law. We need to put this situation within the framework of the law,” he said.
Earlier, the head of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Igor Krasnov, said that cryptocurrencies should be included in the criminal code in order to investigate cases of theft and the possibility of arrest.
