The Minister of Digital Development of Kazakhstan, Baghdad Musin, changed the rules for information about cryptocurrency mining activities by a special order.
Persons planning to engage in or provide services related to mining must provide the following information to the Ministry within 30 days of starting work:
- legal entity or individual entrepreneur, including contact details, bank details and other information;
- The power required for mining in MW;
- number of jobs;
- planned investments in Tenge;
- IP address;
- a copy of the customs declaration or a document confirming the ownership or other legal basis of the equipment;
- information about the location of the data center for mining;
- Confirmation of residence in Kazakhstan;
- a copy of the technical conditions for connection to the electrical network.
Miners must also report this information quarterly until the 10th of the month following the reporting month.
In case of termination of activities for the issuance of cryptocurrencies, it must be reported to the authorized body within 10 days from its completion.
“This is done to bind “white” miners, to sort them in some way, to show signs of who can be connected. There was no such list of requirements before, Alan Dorjiev, Kazakhstan National Head of Blockchain and Data Center Industry, told ForkLog.
It also confirmed that the electricity supply to the miners is not yet resumed.
Recall that in January the Kazakh Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) limited the supply of electricity to mining farms. Since then, this restriction has been extended many times.
In February, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to designate all mining farms and increase the cryptocurrency mining tax. The Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan has proposed to increase the tax rate by 10 times. Authorities also announced that they plan to issue licenses for such activities.
Against this background, many miners began to leave Kazakhstan. Find out more about how a country that has attracted many representatives of the mining industry in a short time is at risk of losing everything, read our special article.
