Cryptocurrency miners in the Russian Federation must pay incrementally for electricity. Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes that the relevant guidelines were developed by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).

According to the regulator, individuals often try to monetize low energy tariffs by mining cryptocurrencies. This creates an overload in the electrical network. The problem is especially relevant for the Irkutsk region, Krasnoyarsk Territory and Dagestan.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service proposes to introduce a certain threshold for electricity consumption that will cut household needs from commercial needs. To do this, anti-monopolists want to calculate the maximum number of kilowatt-hours that an occupant of an apartment or house spends with active use of household appliances.

Consumptions exceeding this norm will be paid at higher rates. Each region should set boundaries independently, taking into account local features.

Experts believe the innovation will significantly reduce interest in mining and other electricity-related household earnings.

Recall that at the end of April, a draft law “On Mining” was presented to the State Duma. According to the current version of the document, when electricity limits are exceeded, individual miners are required to register as individual entrepreneurs or self-employed.

Lawyers pointed out the bill’s obvious shortcomings, especially for ForkLog.

Earlier the same month, the Ministry of Economic Development proposed setting a threshold for electricity use for “home” miners and connecting farms at low rates.
