According to Jeff Pu, an analyst at Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities, the low-cost iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models that will be released later this year will be equipped with a 48-megapixel rear camera.

In today’s research note, MacRumorsThe 48-megapixel lens on these models will use a new three-component sensor that can capture more light to improve image quality, Pu said. However, based on recent supply chain reviews, Pu believes the multi-layer sensor may face performance issues that could lead to delays in production of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. The devices are expected to launch in September.

Last year, Apple first introduced the 48-megapixel camera lens on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The lens allows users to take 48MP ProRAW photos that preserve more detail in the image file for greater editing flexibility.

Pu was the first to report that the iPhone 15 Pro models will no longer have solid-state buttons due to “design issues”. He still expects the iPhone 15 Pro models to feature titanium bezels, the updated A17 Bionic chip, increased 8GB of RAM and more, and reiterated that all four iPhone 15 models will feature a USB-C port.
