According to Sammobile, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 should fix some of its predecessor’s shortcomings. While the Galaxy Z Flip series offers high-end features like powerful Snapdragon chips and impressive 120Hz AMOLED displays, it falls short in some areas.

One notable shortcoming is support for Samsung DeX, a feature that allows users to turn their Samsung devices into desktop-like workstations. However, sources suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will break this trend and become Samsung’s smallest phone to support DeX.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be Samsung’s most compact phone with DeX support

For those unfamiliar with DeX, it allows users to mirror desktop interfaces to external displays such as smart TVs or monitors, either wirelessly or via an HDMI adapter. This feature allows you to create a more productive work environment by connecting standard input devices such as mouse and keyboard.

Samsung has also developed a DeX app for Windows and Mac that allows users to use DeX on their computers by connecting their Samsung devices with a USB-C cable. While DeX can be used directly on tablets, smartphones do not have the screen to do so.

As for the current Galaxy Z Flip models, it is unknown if they will receive DeX support via a software update after the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s official launch. While details are scarce, it’s worth noting that older models should be able to run smoothly. Hopeful, DeX thinks at least some of them might get the feature.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to be introduced alongside the expected Galaxy Z Fold 5 at the Samsung Unpacked event to be held at the end of July. Both devices will come pre-loaded with Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1 and will be available for four major OS updates in line with Samsung’s standard offering for current Galaxy flagships. It is also said that the Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9+ and Tab S9 Ultra will be introduced, as well as announcements about the Galaxy Watch 6 series.
