According to several users on the MacRumors forums, the Apple Support Community, and Reddit, the Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter does not work with iPhones and iPads updated to iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5.
The adapter includes a USB-A port for connecting a camera, microphone, or other USB-powered accessory to your iPhone or iPad, and a Lightning port for charging your iPhone or iPad. However, starting with iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5, affected users say that the adapter is no longer supplying power to devices connected to both ports.
The problem is probably caused by a software bug that should be fixed in a future version of iOS, but the actual cause is unknown. Apple released the first beta of iOS 16.6 for developers today, but the update is likely weeks away, so an iOS 16.5.1 update may be necessary if the company wants to fix the bug sooner rather than later.
