iPhone works underwater after a year

Surprisingly, a scuba diving club in Madison, Wisconsin recovered an iPhone that had spent nearly a year underwater, but found that it could still be opened and used without any noticeable issues.

Known for its clean-up operations in Lake Mendota, the Four Lakes Scuba Club regularly encounters various mobile phones during its underwater work. As a rule, these devices do not work after landing and trying to charge. However, the recently introduced iPhone proved to be an exception to this trend.

Ellen Evans, president of the Four Lakes Scuba Club, explained that they were pleasantly surprised when they tried to charge the confiscated iPhone, and saw its screen light up, showing signs of life. After a stunning recovery, local authorities took on the task of finding the true owner of the iPhone. Through the internal data stored on the device, they have successfully determined that Ellie Eisenberg is the owner.

Recalling the event, Eisenberg, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, shared that he accidentally dropped his iPhone into the water while boating with his friends in the summer of 2022.

This remarkable event is a testament to the durability and resilience of modern mobile technology, as the iPhone can survive and function properly under water for a long time. Judging by the stainless steel finish, the device looks like an iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 13 Pro, but details on the specific model and specs of the iPhone have not been disclosed. The ability to withstand being submerged for such a long time undoubtedly demonstrates the reliability of modern smartphone design.
