Known for its clean-up operations in Lake Mendota, the Four Lakes Scuba Club regularly encounters various mobile phones during its underwater work. Ellen Evans, president of the Four Lakes Scuba Club, explained that they were pleasantly surprised when they tried to charge the confiscated iPhone, and saw its screen light up, showing signs of life. After a stunning recovery, local authorities took on the task of finding the true owner of the iPhone. Through the internal data stored on the device, they have successfully determined that Ellie Eisenberg is the owner.

Recalling the event, Eisenberg, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, shared that he accidentally dropped his iPhone into the water while boating with his friends in the summer of 2022.
