The Honor 90 series has been officially announced in the Chinese market. The new line is the successor to the Honor 80 series announced in November 2022 and is the latest piece of the high-end offering.

Honor 90 Pro: design and display

The new premium smartphones have a stylish new design with a sleek body that is somewhat similar to its predecessor. But the notable difference is the inclusion of two oval-shaped camera modules that are separated rather than connected to each other. Called Double-ring Design, these modules are inspired by high fashion and craftsmanship in luxury jewellery. It has a glass body with a metal frame on the back. It weighs 192 grams and has a maximum thickness of only 8.1mm.

Meanwhile, on the front is a 6.78-inch curved display with curved edges. The panel offers 1.5K+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 1600 nits peak brightness and 3850Hz PWM dimming. It also offers a high screen-to-body ratio of 94.4 percent, 1.07 billion colors and a wide DCI P3 color gamut. Similar to the previous generation model, the Honor 90 Pro also has a pill-shaped hole that houses the front-facing dual selfie camera. The new quad-curved display also promises to be eye-straining and mimics natural light to reduce eye strain thanks to Circadian Night Display technology.

The premium Honor 90 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, the same chipset found in the Honor 80 Pro. This chipset is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Under the hood, a massive 5,000mAh battery powers the new device, which also supports an impressive 100W fast charging speed.

Unlike its former parent company, Huawei, the brand’s devices offer support for the newer and faster 5G network. In addition, the device will come out of the box with Android 13 MagicOS 7.1. Other key features include Bluetooth 5.2, LDAC, AptX and AptX HD codec support, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

The Honor 90 Pro has a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 200-megapixel Samsung HP3 sensor with a wide f/1.9 aperture. It works with a 32-megapixel 68mm telephoto sensor with 2.5x optical zoom, f/2.2 aperture and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). There is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture. On the other hand, on the front, there is a dual selfie camera sensor consisting of a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel depth-of-field sensor.

Pricing and Availability

The company has announced the new Honor 90 Pro for the main Chinese market and pre-orders have started as well. The new Honor device is available in several colors including Silver Diamond, Peacock Blue, Emerald Green and Black variant. The starting price for the 12GB + 256GB base model is RMB 3,299 (about US$466). There is also a 16GB + 256GB model that costs 3,599 Yuan (about US$508) and a 16GB + 512GB model that costs RMB 3,899 (about US$550).
