According to a source from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will unveil the mixed reality headset at WWDC 2023.
Reality Pro is expected to be a niche product aimed at professionals, packed with impressive features such as next-generation display technology, M2 chipset, and various sensors to monitor eye and head movements.
However, the gadget is expected to have a high price. 3000 dollars. Apple is also reportedly working on a more affordable headset for the future.
New xrOS operating system
The fact that Reality Pro can run on a new operating system called xrOS may be one of the reasons for its presentation at WWDC. This timing will allow developers to start working on apps even before the device’s official launch, though there may be a delay between the announcement and the actual release. Analysts predict that the headset could hit the market before the holiday season kicks off.
Updating existing operating systems
In addition to Reality Pro, WWDC 2023 will also feature important software announcements. Apple is expected to offer updates to its operating systems, including:
iOS 17,
iPadOS17,
macOS 14,
watchOS 10.
While software updates for iOS and iPadOS are fairly routine, watchOS 10 is said to bring significant changes to the Apple Watch software interface.
iOS 17 is expected to bring quality of life improvements, improvements to the notification system, and new widgets on iMessage and lock screen. However, the long-awaited support for third-party app stores may initially be limited to devices in the European Union.
The changes in iPadOS 17 are still largely unknown, but multitasking improvements and preparations for the iPad’s transition to an OLED display next year may be on the horizon.
WatchOS 10 is expected to be a major update with changes to the UI, including an overhaul of the widget system and changes to the design of built-in apps.
Apple may show more gadgets
While Reality Pro is the only hardware announcement confirmed for WWDC, it has the potential for more surprises. There was speculation about the transition of the Mac Pro to Apple’s silicon, which justified the hopes of many professionals. In addition, a new 15-inch MacBook Air may also hit the market. However, it is unlikely that new iPad models will be introduced.
The unexpected at WWDC 2023
It is worth noting that WWDC is not an event where new iPhone models are announced. The iPhone lineup is usually unveiled at a special Apple event in September.
As for the Apple Watch, new models are launched at the end of 2022, and a new device is not expected to be introduced until September 2023.
Likewise, rumor has it that the new AirPods will likely be a USB-C version of the AirPods Pro 2, which may not arrive in the coming months.
