Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphones could be dustproof

Samsung, the leader of the folding smartphone market, is currently preparing to launch the fifth generation Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip smartphones. With Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones still months away, details about the devices continue to surface on the internet. The latest development claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 may have dust protection support.

According to the news of Twitter user @chunvn8888, Samsung’s new generation foldable smartphones will have an IP58 rating, which means protection against water and dust. According to estimates, the waterproofing will be up to 1.5 meters in depth for up to 30 minutes.

Current generation devices are only rated IPX8, offering water resistance. With the addition of dust resistance, the phone will be more durable and less likely to be damaged by dirt, sand or other particles. This is more important because the device tends to be damaged by dust, especially on additional mechanical parts such as hinges.

Note that the report has not yet been confirmed, so we recommend that you take this information with skepticism. However, we expect the feature to be added to the brand’s upcoming flagship smartphones.

Motorola recently launched Razr and Razr+ smartphones with IP52 ratings, which offer the same level of dust protection as IP68 but not the same level of water protection.
