Equipment prices in Russia may increase by half after the legalization of parallel imports

According to Russian experts, distributors and companies that previously worked in the gray market will import under parallel import programs. They already have access to the right warehouses and vendors abroad.

Previously, these distributors had their own logistics sites in the country, but now they will have to use intermediate warehouses abroad. And only from them in small batches to transport the goods to Russia and often hide the end point of delivery from the manufacturer. This will increase operating costs and require higher prices for goods for the end customer.

Experts believe they will transport goods via Kazakhstan, China, and to a lesser extent Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. If we talk about Apple watches, Samsung devices, Xbox consoles and other equipment, it is likely to be imported into Russia via China. However, if you do not bring consumer goods from China, for example Siemens controller, you may face sanctions, so you will have to secretly import such goods.

It will be recalled that Russia has recently legalized gray imports. All because of the sanctions that hit the country hard.

Problems with technology in Russia

Not so long ago, Russian experts noted that stocks of smartphones, imported electronics and household appliances in Russian stores will be enough by summer. The worst cases with household appliances – especially built-in, have almost completely disappeared.

It will be extremely difficult to replace some product categories with other brands in the short term. These include premium home appliances, flagship smartphones, smartwatches and game consoles. The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade reports that only equipment such as:

  • refrigerators,
  • washing machines,
  • Russian smartphones
  • electric kettles,
  • televisions,
  • microwave ovens,
  • gas and electric stoves with ovens.

However, this information is not as accurate as any information produced by Russian agencies.

Currently, Russia is in danger of a serious shortage of equipment. The country is currently trying to develop a mechanism for parallel imports from Turkey, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
