Google isn’t releasing the Pixel 8 series anytime soon, but details about the series are leaking in full swing. From what we know so far, the Pixel 8 Pro will be a major upgrade over the previous model, thanks to its temperature sensor, smart processor and elegant design. You can now add new camera sensors to the update list as well, as a new report claims that the device will get a new ISOCELL GN2 main sensor along with a 64MP telephoto lens. The vanilla model also gets a new main sensor, but apparently no ultra-wide lens.
Developer Kamila Wojciechowska writes Android Authorityreveals that the Pixel 8 series has received a major upgrade in the camera department. According to the report, both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will get Samsung ISOCELL GN2 as the main camera sensor. This is a marked improvement over the previous GN1 sensor.
The inclusion of a new main sensor provides approximately 35% more light capture compared to the previous model. This improvement reduces motion blur, providing brighter images and faster shutter speeds in low-light conditions. The new sensor also supports 8K/30fps video recording.
The Pixel 8 Pro is also said to get a “more comfortable” ultra-wide sensor. The Pixel 7 Pro has the old and forgotten 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 sensor in the ultra-wide display, but the upcoming flagship may have the new 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 sensor. It is much larger in size and needs to improve the ultra-wide shooting capabilities of the device. However, you’ll find the same Sony IMX386 in the standard Pixel 8, despite having a better 0.55x zoom factor (the Pixel 7 has a 0.67x zoom factor).
