Known for producing compact smartphones, Unihertz once again attracted the attention of technology enthusiasts with its latest product, Jelly Star. Following the success of its predecessors, Unihertz is back with a device that combines a tiny size with an impressive performance boost. Introduced as the smallest smartphone running Android 13, Jelly Star aims to revolutionize the ultra-compact smartphone market. The launch took place just a few months after the launch of the Unihertz Luna, which has a similar design to the Nothing Phone 1.
Jelly Star shows significant improvements over its predecessor, Jelly 2E. The company Unihertz equipped the device with a powerful octa-core MediaTek Helio G99 processor built on the 6nm process. In testing, Jelly Star’s performance outstripped Jelly 2E’s Helio A22 by an impressive three times. The new phone also features 8GB of RAM, which doubles the capacity of the previous model, providing smooth multitasking and efficient program management. With 256GB of UFS 2.2 flash memory and a MicroSD card reader, users can now enjoy ample storage for their apps, media and files.
Despite its compact size, Jelly Star is not inferior to the capabilities of the camera. It comes with an excellent 48MP primary camera that offers high resolution photos and videos. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera for clear selfies and video calls. The device also has a 3-inch LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, providing bright images and clear text.
Unihertz has deftly packed all these impressive components into an extremely small form factor. Measuring just 95.1×49.6×18.7mm and weighing just 116g with its battery, Jelly Star is truly pocket-friendly. Despite its compactness, the smartphone is equipped with a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back panel for easy and secure unlocking.
Jelly Star is currently available for support on Kickstarter at a commit price of HKD 1,329 (~US$170). Supporters can choose from bright blue or red color options. Unihertz plans to begin shipping to backers in October 2023, with an estimated retail price of approximately HK$1,675 (~$214) at launch.
