Samsung recently released a June 2023 security update for the Galaxy S22 series in Europe and Latin America. The update is currently rolling out in North America, specifically the United States. New security update with firmware versions S90xUSQU2CWE7 for models with operator lock and S90xU1UEU2CWE8 unlocked models are now available for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra. Users of Dish Wireless, Metro PCS, and T-Mobile can update their devices accordingly.

What’s new in this Galaxy S22 June 2023 security update?

This update mainly focuses on improving device security by addressing more than 60 vulnerabilities found in Galaxy smartphones and tablets. However, the official changelog provided by Samsung does not mention any new features or performance improvements.

According to Samsung’s updated security bulletin, the June 2023 patch contains 53 fixes from Google for Android-related vulnerabilities (CVEs). Three of these are classified as critical and 50 as very important. In addition, Samsung fixed 11 vulnerabilities specific to its devices.

The South Korean company has revealed details about three of these vulnerabilities, known as Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE). Information on remaining vulnerabilities will be released when all Galaxy phones and tablets receive the June 2023 patch or subsequent security updates. Three of the discovered flaws affect Galaxy devices running Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. One vulnerability affects devices using Exynos chips, while others are related to flaws in Knox and CC (Common Criteria) mode.

US users can go to Settings > Software Update and select Download and Install to check for the new update on their Galaxy S22 series phones. Samsung plans to release the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update for the Galaxy S22 series in the future this year. The phones were first released with Android 12, followed by the Android 13 update and One UI 5.1 update in the past months.
