As Apple’s highly anticipated release of the iPhone 15 series approaches, images of a protective case for the iPhone 15 Pro Max have surfaced online. Photos shared by well-known leaker Majin Bu offer a glimpse into the design changes of Apple’s upcoming flagship device.

New “custom button” and its possible functions

The most important change that can be seen in the leaked images is the repositioning of the traditional Mute key, which has not changed for the last 16 years. In previous iPhone models, the Mute switch was located on the top left side of the device with a flat and narrow oval opening in the body for easy switching.

However, the leaked iPhone 15 Pro Max case is noticeably different from the usual layout. The hole in the place of the silent switch has been transformed to a wider, rounder design. Speculation suggests that this modified hole could accommodate a new “custom button” designed to replace the traditional mute switch.

Previous rumors had already hinted at Apple’s intention to replace the old Mute switch with a more universal “dedicated button”. This button is said to be equipped with a miniature processor that allows users to perform various actions even when the battery is low or the device is turned off. Notably, the case has a clear cutout for the camera module, marking a possible improvement over its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The larger notch indicates that Apple may introduce a more advanced camera system on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
