Apple’s critics often complain that its products are offered too cheap for their value. In the Android ecosystem, the scenario is the opposite: you can get a lot for less than half the price of an iPhone. That gap could soon widen further as 24GB of RAM becomes standard for flagship phones.
According to the reliable Chinese source Digital Chat Station, Android smartphones with 24 GB of RAM will appear. A leaker on the Chinese social network Weibo claimed that “Oga” has started working to support this great memory. If you’ve never heard of them, Oga manufacturers include Realme, OnePlus, and Oppo.
The leaker didn’t give us details on which company in the group is working on 24GB of RAM for their phones. However, the Weibo post claims that 24GB of RAM will be offered as the top configuration of the company’s flagship series, while 16GB will be standard. No doubt this will generate a lot of buzz, but the real question is how useful it will be in the real world.
A few years ago, the arrival of a 200-megapixel camera on Android phones caused a lot of rumors, but the sheer number of megapixels has not been a game-changer in the industry. It will be interesting to see how companies sell the idea of up to 24GB of RAM to users.
While the hardware requirements depend on how you want to use your phone, 8GB of RAM is considered sufficient for most people. And those who want to be future-proof can stop at 12 or 16 GB. All of the above may seem appealing on paper, but it’s unlikely you’ll get anything major that could solve a particular problem.
