Samsung has recently released the latest security update for the Galaxy S21 series. The update, which includes the July 2023 security patch, is currently available in select countries in Latin America and will be available in other regions soon. Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S23 devices have already started to receive this update.
What’s new in this update?
The firmware version G99xBXXS9EWF3 includes the July 2023 security patch for Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra. This update fixes more than 90 vulnerabilities found in the previous version of the software. Specifically, this update focuses only on security enhancements and does not include any new features or performance improvements. It is currently available in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
A security bulletin released by Samsung states that the July 2023 security patch fixes a total of 90 vulnerabilities in various Galaxy phones and tablets. While 52 of these patches were provided by Google, Samsung developed 38 vulnerability patches. Fixed three critical flaws along with 56 high priority issues. The remaining vulnerabilities are considered moderate risk. It’s worth noting that Google has included three fixes already included in Samsung’s June 2023 patch in the July update.
Some vulnerabilities addressed by Samsung (SVE) are manual package installation using ADB command, improper voice access control, UWB chipset ID, SMS broadcast configuration, Galaxy theme service, etc. It is related to. Improper access control issues were also present in the setup, and some internal test functions suffered from writing issues outside of bounds allowing potentially unauthorized code execution.
Most of the identified flaws are found on devices running Android 11, Android 12, Android 12L, and Android 13, and some issues affect Qualcomm chips and components, Mali and PowerVR GPUs, and memory management.

The Galaxy S21 series was launched by Samsung in early 2021 with the Android 11 operating system pre-installed. The devices then received the Android 12 update in late 2021 and the Android 13 update in late 2022. Samsung is expected to release the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update for the Galaxy S21 series later this year.
