Carl Pei’s company is now targeting the premium segment with a phone that promises significant improvements in the photography department and comes with high-end hardware.

A shot towards the high end

The new Nothing Phone (2) has a nearly identical design to its last-generation sibling, except for two major changes: now a much bigger phone and the rear part presents a small curvature in the glass. If we look at LED assemblies, we now have quite a few. This will allow for some extra options, as we’ll tell you later.

Building 100% recycled aluminum and rear glass, so it can compete with other high-end competitors when it comes to design. On the front, it’s still a flat-screen phone. Thanks for joining the curvy trend, Nothing. The “iPhone” vibe is still there, but the LED group makes the Phone (2) extremely recognizable (for the most enthusiast).

The panel has grown and has now grown to 6.7 inches. It retains OLED technology and 120 Hz refresh rate, but now in LTPO type, so it can drop to 1 Hz to save power. It’s also a brighter panel, despite having a peak of only 1,000 nits. 1,600 nits are reserved for multimedia content in HDR.

As for the SoC, the leap is no less than the Snapdragon 778G+ of the last generation. The phone (2) boasts a best-in-class processor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, just below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Memories start from 8+128GB, but in terms of price, the most attractive option is 12+. 256GB. For those who want the maximum, there is also the option of 12 + 512 GB.

To power the set we find a 4,700mAh battery with 45W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 5W reversible wireless charging. It’s a good bet for maintaining maximum battery life.

Let’s talk about LEDs

While they look identical to the Nothing Phone (1), the Phone (2)’s new LEDs come in more groups and with a great addition: the brightness sensor. In this generation, the phone is able to measure ambient light from the back, so the brightness of the LEDs is automatic, as is that of the screen. There new functions for these groups:

• The LEDs now act as a timer displaying a countdown.
• Integration with Google Assistant: A small animation will be displayed with LEDs when you reply to us.
• Integration with third-party applications. Currently working with Uber (and Uber Eats). The process is shown in real time how advanced our order is. More applications are expected in the future.
• They now also work as a sound indicator.
• New app ‘Composer’: new app to create our own ringtones in sync with LEDs.

Dual cameras and four years of support

At the photo level, Nothing Phone (2) bets on Sony IMX890, the same main sensor as OnePlus 11, Realme GT Neo 5 or OPPO Find N2 Flip. It’s not the best sensor of the moment, but it’s a solver bet. This is accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle, Samsung’s JN1 (a sensor that’s starting to stay pretty fair).

Nothing can guarantee that it has completely changed the way your HDR works, and that this generation of processing software will weigh more than ever when it comes to taking pictures. It remains to be seen how it performs in scrutiny even though it looks perfect.

Regarding software, it should be noted that Android 13 ships with Nothing OS 2 (stock Android is customized by the company). three years of OS updates (up to Android 16). Regarding security patches, we have four years of updates with patches every two months.

The Nothing Phone (2) will go on sale in Spain on July 21 and can be purchased both on the Nothing page and from regular retailers.

It will be available in white and dark gray and there are three variants to choose from:
