Honor Magic V2 introduced as the thinnest foldable device with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Flip phones used to be big and bulky, but not anymore. Honor’s latest Magic V2 is the thinnest foldable smartphone ever, measuring just 9.9mm. This makes it as thin as some traditional bar phones. Despite its lightweight design, the Magic V2 does not lack features. It has a massive 5000mAh battery and is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Read on to learn more about this promising foldable device.

Ultra thin and light construction

Let’s talk about those first, as design and build quality are the Magic V2’s main selling points. The smartphone has a premium design with a large rectangular camera module somewhat similar to the Magic Vs. The Honor smartphone is only 9.9mm thick when folded, but the thickness reaches an impressive 4.7mm when unfolded. Honor says the Magic V2 beats a regular bar phone, the Huawei Mate 50RS, in thickness.

The folding device is not only thin, but also light. The normal leather version of the device is 231 gr, while the glass version is only 237 gr. Honor Luban comes with a new hinge technology called titanium hinge. The hinge is certified by Swiss SGS to the gold standard high reliability folding quality, which means it can withstand 400,000 folds without any problems. It also supports pointing at different angles allowing you to use the phone in different locations.

Speaking of display features, Honor Magic V2 uses a 6.43-inch 2376×1060 BOE external OLED display with 20:9 aspect ratio, supports 120Hz LTPO refresh rate and 3840Hz PWM high frequency dimming. The panel is certified flicker-free by TÜV Rheinland and provides a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The Honor Magic V2’s internal display uses a 7.92-inch 2344×2156 BOE OLED panel with a 9.8:9 aspect ratio with the same refresh rate and dimming rate.

What else?

Moving on to other hardware specs, the Honor Magic V2 packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor under the hood. However, this is not your regular 3.18GHz processor, but instead an overclocked version with a maximum frequency of 3.36GHz. This chip was also used in the Samsung Galaxy S23 series and the recently launched Red Magic 8S Pro.

On the software front, the Honor Magic V2 runs MagicOS 7.2 based on Android 13. Specifically, the foldable device features an in-house RF enhancement chip and uses a wrap-around antenna extension technology, which Honor says improves antenna performance.

In terms of cameras, the Honor Magic V2 has a 16-megapixel camera on the outer screen and another 16-megapixel camera inside. On the back of the device, there is a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide and a 20MP telephoto camera with up to 40x zoom. Honor has also packed the device with a massive 5000mAh battery with 66W charging support.
