Susie Dougherty was delighted with the photo she took with her son’s iPhone. She loved the sharp, colorful photo of her posing with models at the Gucci fashion show so much that she printed a copy and entered a local photo contest.
Four judges reviewed and liked the photo, but were later removed from the competition. The jury suspects the image was created by artificial intelligence. “I’m glad,” said Susie Dougherty, adding that her 18-year-old son, Caspar, found it funny.
He asked his son if he was upset and he said, “No, if they think it’s AI, then the picture turned out great. I don’t even know how to take a picture with AI.”
Dougherty says he and his son visited an exhibit at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney of decor and sets used in the luxury fashion house’s advertising campaigns.
Ian Anderson, owner of Sydney-based printing house Charing Cross Photo, says the competition may need to recognize work using artificial intelligence in a separate category.
We all liked it when this image came out, then I said, “Wait, it looks a bit like artificial intelligence.” Then we started talking about it and realized we wouldn’t know for sure. However, based on our doubts, we were unable to accept the photo.
Anderson says he looked at the metadata but couldn’t tell if it was artificial intelligence. Source
