When an innovative product is released, everyone wants to copy it, or at least be inspired by it. While nothing smartphones are much different from other Android phones in terms of hardware, they have a unique transparent design with LED backlights. So far, the London-based startup is the only company making such phones, but it may soon have a competitor – or should we say a copycat? Infinix is reportedly working on a new smartphone that could look like the recently released phone (2).

The phone could launch next month under the GT series branding

Consultant Mukul Sharma tweeted that Infinix is preparing a new smartphone under the new GT brand. This phone is said to be inspired by the high-profile Nothing Phone (2). Sharma also shared an image of the alleged phone, which shows signs similar to the Glyph interface on Nothing phones.

It is not visible in the image whether the phone will have a transparent back like Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2). But an insider says that this Infinix smartphone will launch in the gaming-focused category and will be priced “much cheaper” than the recently released Nothing phone.

While this is all exciting news, it looks like Infinix may have a legal issue with phone duplication (2). Carl Pei, CEO of the London-based startup, responded to Sharma’s tweet, saying he was training his lawyers. Pei may be joking as he also added a smiley emoji. Nothing has clearly patented the glyph interface on their phones, so if a company copied it, they could easily be sued.
