Apple traditionally releases a new generation iPhone SE every two years. The third generation i.e. iPhone SE 2022 was released last year. That said, its successor, which is expected to arrive next year, has been delayed in the past. This was only confirmed by analysts at Barclays in the latest development.
A new development confirms the delay in the appearance of the iPhone SE
Barclays analysts cite supply chain resources as the reason behind the delay in the launch of the next-generation iPhone SE (probably called the iPhone SE 4). They released a research note for the company’s investors saying that the delay was due to issues with the 5G modem.
For those who don’t know, Apple has been working on its own baseband chips ever since it bought Intel’s smartphone modem business. Two Barclays executives also echoed previous reports that the iPhone SE 4 referred to the company’s 5G modems rather than Qualcomm. However, the device is said to no longer have an Apple modem and instead Qualcomm will be the supplier of the next-gen SE and possibly the 2024 iPhone 16 series.
The problem with the 5G model is not the only problem with the lag in the appearance of the iPhone SE. Display manufacturer BOE is also said to be struggling to produce the low-cost OLED displays it needs. The next-gen model is said to have an OLED panel compared to the LCD on the current iPhone SE 2022.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the iPhone SE 4 has been delayed. Notably, there was a four-year gap between the first-gen SE and the second-gen SE announced in 2020.
