Western Digital introduced 22TB hard drives as in the series super star (DC HC570 model) for servers and data centers and in consumer conditional series Red professional, Purple professional and Gold for NAS, CCTV and high-end enterprise-class systems, respectively. All consist of 2.2TB platters.

In contrast, the 26TB drive is represented by only one model – the server Ultrastar DC HC670. 2.6 TB plates are used here. This driver and the 22-Tbyte Ultrastar DC HC570 are primarily intended for major cloud providers, now available with their instances.

Western Digital did not reveal all the technical specifications of the new products. However, it highlights the use of OptiNAND caching technology, which provides acceleration when accidentally writing large blocks. It is stated that thanks to this technology, especially thanks to its component called ArmorCache, the speed for 256 KB units increases by 40%, and for 1 MB units – up to 80%. In both cases, peak values are meant.
It will be remembered that not so long ago, the South Korean company Samsung officially introduced a new generation of non-volatile memory modules for mobile devices. UFS 4.0 is called the most productive storage solution.
The technology has already received approval from the JEDEC Association. However, smartphones will not only increase productivity, but also reduce energy consumption, which is especially important in the 5G era. You can read more about it here.
