Xiaomi presents and the star of the party is its new fold. Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 is a big improvement over the last generation Xiaomi MIX Fold 2. It is a phone that we can get first impressions of, but that we cannot use for a long time because it has not officially arrived in Spain.

The new model comes with a language-changing design, four cameras on the rear, and some hardware improvements (at least at the technical datasheet level) that make it one of the best book-style foldables on the market. A new design that shows you can continue to innovate in folding

Speaking of folding, Xiaomi does not know the word ‘continuity’. In this case, we are faced with a new module that houses four rear cameras, as well as a terminal that has completely renewed its rear. The format remains the same: a folding book type to compete with the Galaxy Fold. The rear is made of glass and the frames are once again lined with aluminium.

At just 10.26mm and just over 5mm when unfolded, it’s one of the thinnest foldables on the market. The Honor Magic V2 ranks second as it is even thinner both when folded and unfolded. A new hinge was introduced in this generation. They promise that this new technology in the form of a water drop supports more than 500,000 folds.

The external display is 6.56 inches in Full HD+ resolution, while the internal display is 8.03 inches, AMOLED type with a brightness of 1,300 nits and a maximum peak of 2,300 and a resolution of 2K+. It’s like using the “iPad Mini”, according to Xiaomi, which is protected by a second-generation Gorilla Glass Victus and has a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

In fact, they outrank the battery over an iPhone 14 Pro Max, so they’re pretty confident in that regard. The Surge P2, a chip that will control the 67W of wired charging and the 50W it reaches wirelessly, is managing fast charging. There is also a Surge G1 sensor responsible for the overall energy management of the device.

Leica cameras and software for foldables

The cameras are made by Leica, as in the models of the most premium Xiaomi family, so we can shoot in both Leica-signed mode and Vibrant mode.

If we talk about hardware, we find four sensors: all with 50 megapixel resolution. The main camera promises to be at the level of the best high-end mobiles. The photography department is often a secondary thing in folding, and Xiaomi wants the MIX Fold 3 to be able to compete with any premium rivals.

The second camera is ultra wide-angle, the remaining two are telephoto lenses. One of them is 3.2x optical telephoto, and the fourth sensor is 5x super telephoto. The photographic versatility is brutal in this model, so it remains to be seen how ambitious the final results are.

At the operating system level, we have MIUI specially optimized for foldable devices, based on Android 13 and with the promise of being one of the best experiences when interacting with a foldable.

In the Xiaomi folding family, we are talking about a terminal that is put on sale in its homeland as usual and does not shed light on whether it will reach the global market. It is available in China in gold and black at the following prices and configurations:
