Honor’s first folding smartphone confirmed in China

Honor recently launched the Honor Magic V2 foldable phone in China. Apart from the Magic V2, the company has also launched Honor Magic Vs and Magic V foldable phones in the past. All Honor foldable phones released so far have a fold-in design. However, a new development indicates that the brand may be working on its first foldable phone with an outward-folding design.

As seen in the screenshot below, the Honor smartphone identified by the model number VCA-AN00 has appeared in China’s MIIT certification database. Information from a leak in China indicates that the abbreviation “VCA” corresponds to the device’s internal codename, known as “Victoria”.

According to an earlier leak, the device may be called the Honor Magic V Slim when it launches. The device is expected to fail in October this year.

In particular, the market offers limited options for smartphones with a fold-out design. In fact, no major Chinese smartphone manufacturer other than Huawei has released a device with such a special folding mechanism. Launched in May 2022, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 is the latest example of a smartphone that offers a foldable design.

According to previous reports, the company may launch two more smartphones such as Honor 100 GT and Honor X50 GT. These devices are expected to replace last year’s Honor 80 GT and Honor X40 GT.

Honor is also said to be working on the first flip phone with a foldable screen called the Honor Magic Flip. Details of the device have not yet been disclosed. The only thing known about the device is that it will malfunction in 2024.
