The OnePlus Open was previously expected to launch in August, but was reportedly delayed due to a last-minute screen replacement issue. However, an insider is now claiming that the sole reason behind the foldable phone launching later than expected is that Samsung may not be removing the BOE panels for its displays.
According to Yogesh Brar, the OnePlus Open is being postponed to late September or early October, not only because of the display issue, but also because of OPPO’s ongoing patent dispute with Nokia. The two companies have been litigating since 2021 due to non-renewal of the terms of the license agreement between Nokia and OPPO. This caused OPPO to suspend the sale of OnePlus devices as well as its phones in Germany.

Last month Nokia also won a ruling in its favor against OPPO in India in the same parental rights case. The Chinese phone maker has been instructed to pay Nokia a license fee for phones sold in the country.
With the OnePlus Open on the horizon, OPPO definitely wants to eliminate the legal issues so that the new phone can be released smoothly.
Meanwhile, OnePlus has been pretty quiet on Open after confirming the phone’s X name during the launch of Samsung’s new foldable devices. As always, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation from the company, but since August is already behind us and September is the iPhone launch month, a OnePlus Open launch in early October seems sooner than not.
