Oppo produces powerful and advanced devices, but almost none of them come out of China. The only device that opened to the global market was the Oppo Find N2 Flip. The rival Galaxy Z Flip 4 was showcased with its elegant design and strong hinge. It also had a large screen that allowed you to do many things without opening the phone.
Oppo is now ready to bring the Find N3 Flip to China on August 29, and hopefully it will launch globally later this year as well. The new foldable device has received some design changes and upgraded features that could make it a worthy competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. Read this review to find out what’s new in Oppo’s latest foldable device.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip was the company’s first attempt at making the clamshell case foldable, and it was (almost) successful. The stylish design of the smartphone made it attractive and its large display gave it an advantage over other alternatives on the market. Unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Find N2 Flip folds completely flat with no gaps in the fold.
The upcoming Find N3 Flip doesn’t look like its predecessor, but it’s not that different. The phone retains the rectangular screen on the side but gets a new round camera module. The new module features three camera sensors and also the Hasselblad brand. It is noteworthy that the Find N3 Flip does not have a larger cover like some of its competitors. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a larger external screen that takes up half of the phone, while the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra has a larger screen that takes up most of the front of the phone.
So far we do not know if the hinge of the Find N3 Flip will change. The Find N2 Flip features a new Flexion Hinge, which is a version of the Find N2 hinge adapted for a smaller phone. It has 216,000 operating degrees and can hold your phone in place at any angle between 45 and 110 degrees. This allows you to use the camera in interesting situations such as tripod mode, waist-level shooting or even camcorder mode.
At the moment, the characteristics of the smartphone screen can only be guessed. It is expected to be similar to the Find N2 Flip, which has a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 1600 nits peak brightness and HDR support. The phone has a large 3.26-inch secondary AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a resolution of 720×382 pixels.
The upcoming clamshell phone will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC paired with 16GB of RAM. The device is also expected to pack a larger 4,800mAh battery compared to the previous model’s 4,300mAh battery. It will also support 67W fast charging, which is also confirmed by 3C certification.
The Find N3 Flip is rumored to have a triple camera setup; The main attraction is the 50-megapixel primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). While details about other sensors were not disclosed, Oppo confirmed that the flip phone will be the first device in the series to include a portrait camera lens. The company has also shared some camera samples, but these appear to be edited and may not fully reflect the actual quality of the camera.
Like many other features of the phone, the price has not been announced for now. The price is expected to be the same as the Find N2 Flip. For reference, the Find N2 Flip costs Rs. It’s 89,999 in India for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, which translates to roughly $1,175. The phone is available in three colors: black, gold and purple.
