We got to know Dynamic Island, launched by the iPhone 14 Pro (almost) a year ago: notches this surprised us. During this time it gave me time to understand two things. One of the things learned day by day is that once you have it, it’s hard to go back. Another thing learned at this latest WWDC is that there is still potential to be solved. It is still not used enough.

Much more than football results

I’m talking about the WWDC event because during Apple’s developer event they released a special video about Dynamic Island’s highly interconnected live events and viewings.

Until now, there were only two ways to view information in an app: either by opening the app in full screen, sometimes taking up more space than it should; or through a declaration, something so fleeting and persistent that it turns us into Pavlov’s dogs.

Dynamic Island It paved a way for information to be always visible, but in secret.. And it can be expanded at any time if we find that we need to know something else. My favorite use is to always keep an eye on the day’s sports results. I already see my team’s matches, but I don’t need notifications for every event of other clubs. So having them in sight at all times, without noise, is more than a good solution.

there is then other uses, some common, some specific, that also enhance the above: From seeing how long until the timer we set ends, until the order arrives at our house, to seeing the flight of the person we are waiting for (or our own plane), VTC’s estimated arrival time. task, the following indicators of our route, the song playing, when we record a conversation… There are certain apps like Citymapper that manage to benefit greatly from this element in a very clever way. :

If the rumors are true, it is assumed that in a few weeks we will see Apple bring this element to its entire catalog of the new iPhone 15, without the need for a Pro. also thinks Dynamic Island is an underutilized utility: There are of course many more use cases that users will be happy to engage with, but we don’t know yet.. Or there is no developer suggesting it yet.

The combination of a growing fleet of devices with this component and Apple’s efforts may bring us closer to this scenario. At WWDC 2022, she couldn’t reveal anything about Dynamic Island as it’s three months away from launch; He talked about Live Activities which are similar and complementary but not the same.
