Huawei has recently made the Mate 60 Pro official. The company, which does not give up on the high-end, is returning to the scene with a phone that wants to continue to compete face-to-face with the best of the market. With a massive panel, a powerful camera system and a replacement price of less than 1,000 euros (at least in its home country), the successor to the Huawei Mate 50 Pro comes with 5G connectivity… thank you great sacrifice.

The first thing that catches the eye on the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is its design: the back is pretty much the same as what we saw on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. Paint patterns changedIt comes with an interesting color section, which is quite eye-catching, at least for the Chinese market. The camera module leaves the (correct in your presenter’s view) aesthetics of the Mate 50 Pro to embrace the appreciation we saw on the model two years ago. Construction materials are still aluminum and glass.
Also on the front there have been big changes. The Mate 60 Pro bids farewell to the notch to switch to an exposed front of cameras and sensors. In short, it’s a phone with premium and premium design, but very reminiscent of generations past, rather than the new iteration of this 2023.
When we turn our back, we see a massive 6.82 inch OLED panelWith 2,720 x 1,260 resolution and adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz (LTPO). PWM 1,440 Hz and touch sampling rate 300 Hz, while not the most ambitious at the moment, are decent numbers for a flagship.
The processor is the Kirin 9000S, which is a version of the Kirin 9000, of which not much information has been given. Kirin 9000 had the following build, so there shouldn’t be too many changes:
The reason to bet on this SoC is, 5G post processor. US restrictions prevent Huawei from producing new processors using this technology and collaborating with manufacturers using US manufacturing processes. But nothing prevents them from modifying and re-implementing a Kirin from several generations ago. The potential sacrifice will not be less: It is an architecture that is more like the current mid-range SoC than the flagship processor.
This Mate 60 Pro has 5G as well as satellite connectivity; this is an addition we need to consider, especially if we are using the phone in rural areas where there are problems with traditional coverage.
From a photographic point of view, one of the phones that impressed me the most last year was the Mate 50 Pro. The process was brutaland the work with the zoom was amazing, almost the best on the market. This year the resolution of the main sensor is repeated: a 50-megapixel camera with variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0. This allows you to edit the depth of field and overall sharpness of the scene, just like with a professional camera.
Ultra wide angle dropped from 13 megapixels to 12 megapixels last year; it’s a minor change that shouldn’t have worse consequences. The telephoto lens also drops from 64 megapixels to 50 megapixels. It will now be much brighter and have an aperture of f/3.0. Retains 3.5 optical increments and digital zoom up to x100.
The battery is recovering a lot. Outputs up to 5,000 mAh and with 88W fast charging. Wireless charging is repeated with 50W, and reverse wireless charging technology remains.
The software comes from Harmony OS 3.0 and there is no trace of the Android version this Mate 50 Pro carries.
The Huawei Mate 60 Pro is available in China in a 12 + 512 GB version for just under 900 euros. Colors are green, white, purple and black.
