Motorola makes some good budget phones, and you can probably trace the idea of a “good budget phone” back to the original Moto G, which came out years ago. If you’re a Moto G fan, Motorola is gearing up to launch two new Moto G smartphones next week: the Moto G54 5G and the Moto G84 5G.
Motorola has officially announced that the Moto G84 5G will be released on September 1, 2023, and the Moto G54 5G will be released on September 6, 2023. Both phones will launch in India around this time, but we’re crossing our fingers for the Moto G54 5G to launch in the US and worldwide, as seen on the FCC listing recently.
Motorola also has up-to-date product listings for these phones, giving us a clear idea of what to expect.
Starting with the Moto G54 5G, Motorola says it will be the first smartphone in the segment to offer a combination of 1TB microSD expansion, as well as 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This phone also has the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 (essentially a rebranded Dimensity 930).
The Moto G54 5G features a 6.5-inch FHD+ IPS display with 20:9 aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate. Other confirmed features include 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, 6,000mAh battery, TurboPower 30 fast charging (probably 30W), 33W charger and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.
The camera setup includes a 50-megapixel OIS primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, an 8-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with 118° field of view, and a 16-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture.
The phone comes with Android 13 out of the box, but Motorola only promises Android 14 updates and three years of security updates. The phone will be available in Mint Green, Midnight Blue, and Pearl Blue color options, though these brand names are subject to change when it arrives in the US.
The Moto G84 5G has yet to be detected by the FCC but it comes with the Snapdragon 695 SoC which makes us expect to see it in the US. This phone has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage but no microSD capability.
