Sony introduced the Xperia 5 V, the next generation of the Japanese company’s high-end line, which traditionally comes after the incumbent Xperia 1 (we’ve already analyzed the Sony Xperia 1 V this year). He retains many of his brother’s traits, but we saw an interesting move on the cameras: We went from three to two. Then we will tell you all about the Xperia 5 V.

Just take a look to know which mobile it is. And that’s it, Sony spent years betting on it quite a long format due to the 21:9 aspect ratio of the paneland that’s something that hasn’t changed in this Xperia 5 V.
With glass on the front (protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2), glass on the back and an aluminum frame, the materials are as high-quality as its big brother. It also has an IP68 certificate and its surface is matte.
It’s literally like a smaller Xperia 1 V. The diagonal of the screen is 6.1 inches With a height of 154 millimeters, it can elevate this model to the compact category. The panel is OLED with a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels, has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and the pixel density is remarkable, thanks to 449 pixels per inch.
The front isn’t particularly flashy to use, but that’s because of the top and bottom bezels where the speakers are located. Coming inside, we see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 accompanied by 8GB of RAM.
This is the most powerful SoC currently available for Android mobiles, the benefits of which we have already confirmed on mobiles such as OnePlus 11, Galaxy S23, Xiaomi 13 or Xperia 1 V. Storage is a single 128GB configuration. We can expand it via microSD.
In the battery area, although it is compact, it has not compromised on its capacity. 5,000mAh with 30W charge and both reverse charging and wireless charging capabilities. The system is the classic clean version of Xperia’s Android 13, but some apps are focused on taking advantage of the terminal’s hardware and ecosystem.
In the camera section, we see a curious decision. We’re moving from the Xperia 5 IV’s three 12-megapixel sensors (main, wide-angle and telephoto) to two. The main one measures up to 48 megapixels at 1/1.35 inch and 1.12 micron pixels. Actually the sensor is 52 megapixels, but these 48 are the effective ones and the resulting photos will be 12 megapixels.
Based on optical stabilization, f/1.9 lenses and Sony It will allow us to do a lossless digital 2x. On the other hand, the wide-angle retains 12 megapixels and has f/2.2 lenses. On the front is the same sensor as last year: a 12-megapixel f/2.0 with a 24mm equivalent focal length.
We will be able to record 4K video with both the main and rear cameras, reaching 120fps with the main camera and staying at 30 with the front camera. And the important thing is that the main camera has a ZEISS process to improve reflections and contrast in difficult situations.
The Sony Xperia 5 V will be available in black, white and blue at the end of September, and the curious thing is that Sony is offering an “approximate” price. As we can read in the press release, It will be 999 eurosbut they already warn that the price may vary by country. For Spain yes, we assume these 999 euros will be kept, but the official Spanish website still states “no price available”.
