Apple is the leader in phone sales worldwide. According to Omdia reports, in the first half of the year, the iPhone 14 Pro Max became the world’s best-selling mobile phone with a total of 26.5 million units. But beyond the global numbers, there’s one area where Apple wins, both statistically and socially: teenagers.

87% of adolescents (based on data from US samples, this needs to be clarified) prefer iPhone to Android. A sample of more than 7,000 young people who are very clear about their choices. You don’t even need to leave Spain: Using Android is already a common meme among teens.

Android and social networks

Young people spend almost a third of the day using electronic devices. According to Statista’s data, 30.2 percent of Instagram users are between the ages of 18 and 24. This is the highest figure for any other age with the 25-34 age range.

In the TikTok example, we’re talking about 40% of users between the ages of 18 and 24. Consuming content is part of teens’ daily lives: but it also creates it.

Some time ago I was able to verify that the histogram and size of the files I have, and the content uploaded from Android to social networks. loss of color, sharpness, quality, bitrate… A test that was done three years ago and that has yielded exactly the same results when repeated to this day.

The TikTok meme also applies to Instagram. The “Android Camera” filter does exactly the same: destroy the content we’re going to upload to mock this operating system.

A social trend among young people

There is currently no concrete data on iPhone adoption among youth under the age of 24. But the reality on the street is quite obvious. TuAppleMundo’s Manuel Prol exemplified this with a concert aimed at younger audiences: just looking at the audience is enough to confirm the success of the iPhone.

The key to promoting iPhone adoption in Spain… This is the fee. Apple has categorically not been such an expensive manufacturer for a while. In fact, it has a lower final bill than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Sony Xperia IV, or any of the book-type foldable devices sold in our country.

But the key isn’t here, it’s in the iPhone’s lifecycle. This allows you to sell “old” devices both on the used market and on the refurbished market. As of today, the cost of buying an iPhone 12 (even more than most high-end Android still has four years of updates left) costs around 440 euros. This is the price around the best mid-range from manufacturers like Xiaomi, Realme or Samsung.

Even the iPhone 11 is still a relatively attractive purchase today: you can buy it for just over 300 euros. Lifecycle? Still has more updates than many midrange.

This last point is very important; A fully functional iPhone, a new battery, and future updates are the same or cheaper than most current mid-range iPhones. Regardless of specific models, the iPhone 11 is a device with more power, a camera superior to most competitors in this price range, and most importantly to some: the latest version of iOS.

With a more stable approach, I think the question to be asked is clear, since there is no concrete data on this subject: What is it that pushes young people on this path? Choose an iPhone with three or four years of life over an existing Android.

Social networks, subjective interpretation of the value of money, situation, compatibility with peripherals such as iPad or Apple Watch, etc. There are several reasons that lead to a concrete fact: Apple is the first company to reach three trillion in the stock market and despite intense competition, the undisputed winner when it comes to phones (with over 75% market share) is for the “premium”.
