Yesterday, Xiaomi announced that it will unveil the Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro smartphones on September 26 in Berlin. They will be the successors of the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro respectively. Features of the upcoming offers have recently appeared on the Internet. Ahead of the launch, the Xiaomi executive revealed an important detail about the Xiaomi 13T duo; this will likely excite customers interested in the upcoming devices.
We are proud to announce that we have significantly increased our commitment to providing outstanding software support. Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro will include 4-generation Android OS upgrade as well as 5-year security patches.

Daniel Desjarlais, Xiaomi’s communications director, shared the announcement on Twitter. He said that the upcoming Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro will receive four versions of Android software updates and five years of security patches. The CEO adds that this significantly strengthens the company’s commitment to providing outstanding software support. The Xiaomi 13T duo will be compatible with Android OS 14, 15, 16 and 17 if it comes with Android 13 pre-installed out of the box.
This is really good news for Xiaomi fans and those interested in the upcoming Xiaomi 13T series. Advanced software update forces users to stay on their device for a long time. The Chinese brand isn’t usually known for longer software support, but it has taken its game to the next level by confirming the Redmi K60 Ultra, which receives four operating systems and five years of security updates. While this is a step in the right direction, it’s also worth noting that Xiaomi isn’t the fastest at rolling out new software updates.
It is not yet known whether Xiaomi will introduce a longer software support policy for other devices in its portfolio. Android OEMs are constantly increasing the duration of software support thanks to Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo and more. A recent report also revealed that the search giant Google is aiming to provide five years of operating system updates for its Tensor chipset-based Pixel devices.
