iPhone supports 5G connectivity with iPhone 12 in 2020, and Apple continues to improve this experience. New data now shows that the iPhone 15 Pro, which will reach customers next week, will offer significant improvements in 5G performance thanks to Qualcomm’s new modem.

The report comes from SpeedSmart, which has speed test data from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon using the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The report reveals that these devices use the Qualcomm X70 modem, which offers three main improvements:

• “The increase in power consumption has decreased significantly.”
• “Better Consolidation Opportunities for 5G Operators”.
• “Better connection when your iPhone is away from the base station.”

Considering these benefits, speed test data shows that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max offer 24% faster 5G speeds compared to the iPhone 14 Pro series. Verizon users will see the biggest improvements, followed by T-Mobile and AT&T.

The improvements are mainly due to an increase in download speed, but there are also “minor increases” in download speed and ping time improvements.

All 3 major networks in the US saw significant increases in download speeds, with the slight increases in download speeds we expected. The average download speed of 255 Mbps over 5G is quite impressive.

Verizon had the biggest increase, with the new phones being 24% faster, with T-Mobile coming in second at 22% faster, but the average download speed nationwide is 300 Mbps. AT&T’s average download speed was 14.6% faster. This is a very impressive showing, with all 3 networks averaging over 200 Mbps on 5G across the country.

Qualcomm’s X70 modem is also the source of some flagship Android smartphones on the market. It is noteworthy that Apple is also in the process of developing its own 5G modems, but this is expected to happen a few years later.
