iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will charge at 27W via the USB-C port. This means you can charge your phone from 0 to 100% in less than two hours using the USB-C cable and Apple’s standard 20W USB-C charger. However, this situation has not changed compared to the iPhone 14 models, which can charge at the same speed with Lightning.

The difference with USB-C is that the iPhone can now transfer much more power to accessories. Via Macotakara, iPhone 15 will be able to output up to 4.5W to accessories via USB-C. By comparison, Lightning in previous iPhones produced much less power; approx. 0.3 W maximum.

This means that the world of iPhone accessories could potentially expand significantly as devices can get enough power from the main iPhone.

For example, bus-powered USB-C portable hard drives can now also be connected directly to the iPhone to serve as external storage. On the iPhone 15 Pro, the USB-C port is USB 3, which allows data transfer at speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

During the keynote, Apple even suggested that as a last resort, customers should charge their AirPods or Apple Watch on the go by connecting them to the iPhone 15 with a USB-C charging cable.
