Apple recently introduced the iPhone 15 series with several improvements; One notable change was the adoption of a universal Type-C interface for all models. This move was welcomed by consumers as it was in line with the current trend in Android phones and allowed users to use a single cable for multiple devices. Moreover, cross-platform battery sharing between Android and iPhone is now a reality, further improving the user experience.

However, recent reports from China suggest that some Apple Stores have warned against using Android charging cables on the new iPhone 15, citing concerns about possible overheating.

Security concern or sales strategy?

The warnings come after a private Apple Store in Foshan, Guangdong Province advised customers not to use Android Type-C cables to charge the iPhone 15. The store highlighted differences in the interfaces’ pin placement and suggested that using the Android cable could cause overheating. due to the smaller gap between single row 9-pin and single-row 11-pin connectors.

It looks like this advice isn’t limited to a single store, as there are reports that many Apple-specific stores have also issued similar warnings.

Critics have expressed concern that the warnings may be Apple’s attempt to encourage people to buy official charging cables from Android manufacturers, which are significantly more expensive.

This has sparked ongoing debate and speculation about whether the recommendation is truly driven by device security concerns or a strategic move by Apple to increase sales of its own accessories.

Currently, Apple has not released an official statement explaining its stance on the use of Android charging cables with the iPhone 15 series. This raises questions about the compatibility of charging cables, despite the adoption of the seemingly universal Type-C interface.

The lack of clarity regarding the use of third-party cables highlights the importance of clear guidance from Apple to prevent potential device damage and ensure consumer safety.
