Apple, which said goodbye to the iconic Lightning port with the iPhone 15 models, will face false news about new iPhones this year, like every year. IThe titanium frame of the Phone 15 Pro and Pro Max models has changed color like their claims…

Using the titanium element in the Pro models, Apple wanted to produce a much lighter and also much more durable phone. Although the iPhone 15 Pro Max failed due to the back glass breaking during bend tests, the titanium frame of the devices prevents damage to the vital units inside. But using titanium comes at a different price: Oxidation!

For those just learning about the subject and curious, the “color change” that would occur in the frames of the iPhone 15 Pro looks like this:

Yes, it looks a bit dirty, but the fact that the color seems to have changed, especially in areas where skin contact is intense, gives us the first clue.

Posts on the topic on various social media accounts contain misleading statements:

Yes, Apple made a statement about the issue on the official support page, but this statement has nothing to do with “case usage” or the existing “color change.” Unfortunately, if the news sources you follow are not tracking technology correctly, you have received misleading information. Let’s solve it together.

Why does the color of iPhone 15 Pro change?

Theoretically, it is not actually a color change in the images, and the reason why this happens is that the titanium in the frame undergoes “oxidation” due to the oils from our hands. However, this oxidation is not permanent or harmful like rust.

What causes misconceptions in unfounded news? warning “use without case”. It is made for all iPhone models on sale so far, to protect the phones from scratches, dust and dirt.

By the way, let’s just say that the color change issue isn’t something Apple noticed after launching the phone and said “Oh, wow, that’s what’s happening”, it was done on purpose 🙂

Apple explains the reason for the color change on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max as follows;

“For iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, oil on your skin can temporarily discolor the outer band. Wiping your iPhone with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth will restore it to its original appearance.”

This statement is currently only available on Apple’s English support page for the US market. The Turkish version of the same page for the Turkish market does not contain any additional information about the color change on the iPhone 15s.

As you can see on the same support page, the “use without a case” warning is created to protect not only the iPhone 15s but all iPhones from dust, dirt and scratches. Of course, you can use both the iPhone 15 Pro and all other iPhones without a case if you run the risk of scratches.

Do not use damp alcohol wipes, bleach or detergent to improve the color of the iPhone 15 Pro!

Apple has another important warning about cleaning the iPhone: “Fingerprint proof on your iPhone oleophobic (oil-repellent) coating is available. “Cleaning products and abrasive materials reduce this coating and can scratch your iPhone.”

Furthermore, the “oleophobic” coating in question does not fall under the cases where Apple uses titanium. Since the titanium surface retains the oil passed by our body in that area, a harmless oxidation causes the color to look different. When the damp cloth removes this oil from the titanium surface, the color returns to its previous state.
