In the ever-evolving world of smartphones, durability is a major concern for consumers. Drop tests have become a popular way to measure how well these premium devices can withstand real-world crashes. In this article, we take a closer look at the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, two flagship smartphones with impressive features, in drop tests.

  • Round 1: Back cover damage : In the first round of testing, both the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra passed the drop test, and unfortunately, cracks appeared on the back of both devices. However, it was clear that the iPhone 15 Pro Max was in worse condition and suffered more damage compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
  • Round 2: Frame strength : Moving on to the second round, the devices endured corner drops. Surprisingly, the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s aluminum middle frame suffered more damage than the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s titanium frame. However, the iPhone’s rear glass began to separate from the case in small pieces, indicating a structural security vulnerability.
  • Round 3: Effect of front screen : In the third round, both smartphones faced the challenge of their front screens. Both displays remained functional despite significant cracks forming a mesh pattern. This demonstrated the impact resistance of their screens.
  • Round 4: Final Test : The latest round of testing revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max performs worse than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Despite the strength of the titanium middle frame, the iPhone seems to have trouble protecting itself. This raised the question of whether the titanium frame would paradoxically make the device more vulnerable to certain types of damage.

Solution

iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra received serious damage during this drop test, but the iPhone was a more fragile device. Although the iPhone’s titanium frame promises strength, it looked less padded compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s aluminum frame. This finding complicates smartphone manufacturers’ material choices when it comes to durability.
