Startup Humane introduced the new version of the “smartphone of the future” that does not need a screen

The Ai Pin is not a smartphone in the strict sense of the word. It is a small device that uses projectors, cameras and artificial intelligence technologies to create a personal assistant of sorts. The device attaches to clothing and projects an image onto the user’s hand, wall or other surface.

What is known about Ai Pin

The company has been working on this device for a while. We’ve seen its early versions many times, but it used to be worn only by company representatives.

This time supermodel Naomi Campbell was given the opportunity to show it off. It looks like we’ve seen the final version to be released. We learned his name for the first time.

  • The company describes the Ai Pin as “an autonomous device without a screen and a software platform built from the ground up for artificial intelligence.”
  • It runs on the “advanced” Qualcomm Snapdragon platform and is equipped with a camera and a speaker, as well as a mini-projector that replaces the smartphone screen.
  • The upcoming innovation can perform functions such as artificial intelligence-based optical recognition, but is also claimed to be “privacy-focused”, thanks to features such as the absence of a wake word such as “OK Google” or “Hey Siri”. This allows you to eliminate the constant environmental listening function that most modern smartphones perform.

Humane first showcased Ai Pin’s capabilities during a talk by company co-founder Imran Chaudhry, who previously worked on iOS for Apple. At that moment, the main part of the device was hidden under the clothes and we could only see the projector part.

  • Chaudhry displayed several traits, including the ability to answer calls by reflecting details in the hand.
  • We also saw the AI translation from English to French in the voice of Chaudhry himself.
  • Another feature is Catch Me, a digest of news and information.

It’s still unclear how the device connects to the internet, as it doesn’t connect to a smartphone. It is also unclear what advantages it has over the screen devices we are used to. Ai Pin is likely to have a fairly narrow list of applications limited to certain business processes and users who want to reduce dependence on a smartphone but do not want to switch to outdated push-button phones.
