Yesterday, Google officially introduced Android 14. The company has even started rolling out the update to all eligible Pixels. A few hours after that, Tecno, a relatively smaller brand than Samsung and others, became the first Android 14 OEM.
Over the past few years, Android brands have become much faster at releasing the latest versions of Android. Every year, another brand (besides Google) becomes the first to release a new version of Android.
In 2022, Oppo became the first company to release Android 13 for its Find X5 and Find X5 Pro flagships. Tecno is breaking new ground by being the first company to introduce Android 14 for the Camon 20 Premier 5G in India in 2023.
For those who don’t know, Tecno Camon 20 Premier 5G is a mid-range smartphone. The key features of the device include a 108 MP ultra wide-angle camera with autofocus and a 50 MP RGBW main camera. It is the only phone on the market with such a high-resolution ultra-wide-angle camera.
The phone was launched in India in July at a price of ₹29,999 (~US$360). It is still sold for the same price. The Android 14 update is being released gradually. That’s why it takes some time to reach all units.
Tecno says the update comes with HiOS 13.6. The latest version of the firmware has improved the Game Assistant panel, Clock and Weather widget, multitasking mode, and Gallery. We currently have no information about the availability of the update in other markets. In any case, it should come sooner rather than later.
