What’s the problem

DSA, which came into force in August, sets a framework for the content moderation responsibilities of social network administrators. Commissioner Breton claimsIt was stated that the content reported by the “relevant authorities” as disinformation, a threat to public security and civil discourse continues to be available on X’s social network.

The DSA requires platforms to take “proportionate and effective mitigation measures” to promptly address such issues.

Breton noted that the media and various organizations have widely reported cases of misleading information and images being spread through the X social network, including content related to events in Israel, in some cases borrowed from unrelated military conflicts and even computer games.

The commissioner concluded his letter by calling on Elon Musk to provide a “prompt, accurate and complete response” to these allegations within 24 hours.

Elon Musk’s reaction

In response to these accusations, Elon Musk published a post by the social network calling for evidence of such violations.

Our policy is to be open and transparent and I know that the EU supports this approach. Please list the X violations you mentioned so the public can see them. Thank you very much,
Musk wrote.

The accusations from the EU are the first serious response to the spread of misinformation and propaganda actually taking place on the platform. This isn’t the first time Musk has manipulated X by pretending he doesn’t know what’s going on and denying that X is spreading misinformation; But recently the social network was caught removing likes from posts for which a special algorithm was written. .

Time will tell how this situation will develop and whether social network X will be able to solve the EU’s problems in the stipulated time.
