The launch of the iPhone 16 series is a year away, but rumors about the upcoming devices are already circulating. According to a new report by analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities, Apple will use the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models.

Announced in February 2023, the Snapdragon X75 modem offers faster and more efficient 5G connectivity than the Snapdragon X70 modem used in the current iPhone 15 series, and also takes up less space and consumes approximately 20% less power.

However, Pu also suggests that Apple will use only the Snapdragon X75 modem in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. The Snapdragon X70 modem is expected to remain in the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models. This would be a change in Apple’s strategy, as the company typically uses the same Qualcomm modem across all models for each iPhone generation.

It’s unclear why Apple decided to use different modems in the iPhone 16 series, but it’s likely that the company is trying to further differentiate the Pro and Pro Max models from the base iPhone.

Additionally, Pu suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will have larger screens, 0.2 inches larger than the current 6.1 and 6.7-inch sizes. It’s too early to know for sure whether these rumors are true, but they do provide some interesting information about what Apple has planned for the iPhone 16 series.
