Ukraine, Poland and Slovenia to participate in ID Wallet pilot project

as he reported channel 24Mykhailo Fedorov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Polish Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers Janusz Cieszynski and Slovenian Minister of Digital Transformation, Mark Boris Andrianic.

Politicians agreed on new joint projects:

  • mutual recognition of electronic signatures with Poland;
  • at the start of the pilot on mutual recognition of digital documents;
  • and Ukraine’s participation in the ID Wallet pilot project with Poland and Slovenia.

What is an ID Wallet and what does it do?

The Identity Wallet is a pilot project of the European Union working on a similar principle to the Ukraine “Action”. Users are expected to be able to save their own documents and digital signatures on their smartphones. The wallet also allows you to keep track of how personal data is used by certain structures.

The ID Wallet can be used for a variety of needs, from obtaining government services in the EU to opening a bank account and renting a car. The approximate list of services is as follows:

  • birth certificate;
  • medical certificates;
  • address change notification;
  • opening a bank account;
  • submission of tax returns;
  • apply to a university in their home country or in another EU member state;
  • storage of a medical prescription that can be used anywhere in Europe;
  • confirmation of their age;
  • car rental using digital driver’s licenses;
  • check into a hotel.

There is still a heated debate in the European Union regarding the implementation of the Identity Card, the integration of the project into national legislation and the security of the project in general.

At the same meeting, Mikhail Fedorov and his Polish colleague agreed on mutual recognition of electronic signatures with Poland. According to Fedorov, the recognition of electronic signatures with Poland “will open revolutionary opportunities for our business, because now it will be possible to conclude contracts online.”
