According to a report by Nikkei Asia, the production costs of the iPhone 15 are significantly higher than last year’s iPhone 14 models, indicating record high prices for components that Apple may offer to customers in 2024.
According to calculations, the price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be $ 558, which is 12% more than the iPhone 14 Pro Max model released in 2022. This is a record high for the total cost of iPhone components. From 2018 to 2021, the total parts cost for Apple’s “iPhone” “Pro Max” models ranged between $400 and $450. The component is up nearly 20% in 2022, reaching today’s record high of $558.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max telephoto camera now costs $30, or 380% more than the previous model. Similarly, the titanium frame costs $50, which is 43% more than the stainless steel frame of previous devices. The A17 Pro chip costs $130, which is 27% more than the A16 Bionic chip.
Other models of the iPhone 15 series are not exempt from increasing costs. The standard components of the iPhone 15 cost $423, which is 16% more than the iPhone 14. The price of the iPhone 15 Plus is $442, that is, 10% more than the previous model, while the price of the iPhone 15 Pro increased by 8% to $523.
Despite the cost increase, Apple did not increase the retail prices of any iPhone models this year and decided to absorb the impact of the cost increase. The only notable change is that the 128GB Pro Max model has been discontinued, meaning users who would normally buy the 128GB model will now have to pay $100 more to get the device.
In collaboration with Tokyo-based research company Fomalhaut Techno Solutions Nikkei believes Apple’s earnings will soon be impacted if it continues to absorb the effects of rising production costs. As a result, Apple may finally increase the retail prices of the “iPhone” after the launch of the iPhone 16 series next year.
