Details about Apple’s new iPhone 16 series have already begun to emerge on the internet. The Cupertino-based technology giant announced the new generation iPhone 15 series last month. So it’s too early to take leaks and rumors about next year’s iPhone seriously. A new report from Economic News Daily sheds light on the iPhone 16 Pro’s TV camera.

iPhone 16 Pro may use molded glass for camera lenses

According to the report, Largan will produce telephoto lenses specifically for the iPhone 16 Pro. The camera lens will feature molded glass, which is said to be thinner and lighter compared to traditional glass. This could potentially help reduce the thickness of the protruding camera bump and also reduce weight. This will also provide a better zoom distance. The report also adds that cast glass lenses will be placed on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. Due to the inherent complexity, the company is already preparing for next year’s Pro models and flooding its supply chain with orders.

A previous report suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro could use the tetraprism telephoto lens found on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This lens is compound and also made by Largan. It offers longer focal length and optical zoom without making the phone thicker. This is where the latest developments in molded glass lenses come into play due to their thinner and lighter nature. They also provide greater magnification in a smaller package.

This also means that the 120mm zoom lens of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will appear on the iPhone 16 Pro, bringing it on par with the Pro Max model. It is not yet known whether the Cupertino-based technology giant will stick to the 24 mm and 120 mm focal lengths while using a shorter length.
