A leaker on Weibo reported that future iPhone 16 models may be equipped with an additional button, according to Instant Digital, which previously shared precise details about Apple’s plans. Instant Digital says there’s a “strong chance” of getting an extra button; Apple also plans to move the mmWave antenna to the left of the device instead of the right to adapt to the change.
The iPhone 16 Pro’s Action Button will likely sit flush with the device, as Apple is expected to switch to solid-state technology for the button instead of the current standard button design.
While changes to the action button are expected, the volume and power keys will remain unchanged. Currently these buttons are not solid state, but Apple’s plans may change.
Information released by Instant Digital reflects published details MacRumors It highlights the extra button that is expected to appear on the iPhone 16 in late September. Apple calls this button the “Capture Button” internally, but it’s still unclear exactly what it will be used for. The button will be located on the right side of the device, below the power button, and will be a capacitive button, not the standard one.
We have also previously described moving the mmWave antenna into the space below the volume buttons and using solid-state technology for the action button. Our sources said that the new button will be introduced on all iPhone 16 models, including the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models.
