Apple is working to develop an in-house battery that performs much better than industry alternatives. Korean sources confirm that Apple’s road map focuses on 2025, the year when an iPhone with this self-developed battery will be first marketed.

According to Etnews Apple I’m looking for a new and different composition used by the main battery distributors. The aim is to create its own battery with superior performance, in a size that will not compromise the internal structure of the device.

The source states that experiments have been conducted with carbon nanotubes (CNT), a conductive material that can improve battery performance. This material is already used in devices such as headphones. They have also been used in the implementation of flexible screens, and even research has been conducted on how to create artificial muscles thanks to them.

The main property of carbon nanotubes is their flexibility, in addition to some very interesting conductive properties. In addition to this research at CNT, sources suggest that Apple may choose to use silicon instead of graphite to achieve greater energy capacity in the same area.

Based on this information, Apple believes that the next steps in mixed reality and metadata are increasing the demand for high-performance batteries. The company has been working on its own development of batteries since 2018, and 2025 will be the year we will see the batteries on the market for the first time.

In this new beginning regarding batteries, the iPhone would be the first devices to implement this new technology. Therefore, if the usual schedule is followed, the iPhone 17 will be a before and after in terms of autonomy.
